On July 13th and 14th, San Siro, Milan, is all about Taylor Swift. It marks the singer’s return to Italy since 2011, with two record-breaking dates that sold 130,000 tickets. The most listened-to artist on the popular platform Spotify (over 25 billion streams) has mobilized fans even from overseas. Roughly 18,000 fans (the Swifties) came from the Americas and Australia for this only Italian stop.
Skyrocketing resales, tickets exceed 13,000 Euros
It’s an unprecedented phenomenon in recent music history. In Milan alone, the two concert dates of the singer generated a turnover of 180,000 euros. The buzz in the Lombard capital has been electrifying. Compared to the same weekend last year, for the weekend of July 13-14, there was a 4% growth in hotels and an 11.2% increase in B&Bs and vacation homes.
Tickets for the tour in America ranged from $800 to $2000. The most die-hard fans weren’t fooled and hit two birds with one stone. With the same amount, they also enjoyed a nice, albeit short, vacation in Italy, travel included. On official sites, tickets ranged from 63 to 172 euros (between $67 and $188).
Even tickets resold on unofficial sites found buyers, despite the exorbitant prices. Some tickets indeed reached the record figure of 13,000 euros, which still did not discourage the most ardent fans.
It鈥檚 an almost paradoxical situation for the two dates of the Eras tour, the most profitable ever (even surpassing Elton John’s The Farewell Yellow Brick Road). Italian fans arrived three days early outside the stadium to ensure an entrance without too much queueing. Civil protection distributed thermal blankets and water to prevent any unfortunate health incidents.
The first date (July 13) is already a success
The first date ended around 11 PM. 鈥淚鈥檓 happy to finally be in Milan,鈥 is the phrase uttered by the singer before the concert began, melting the hearts of the fans. She concluded with a resounding 鈥淚 love you all, thank you!鈥 amidst fireworks.
“I’ve been away from Italy for too long,” she continued: “I haven’t been here for 13 years, I promise I won’t let that much time pass again, I was looking at the list of cities and couldn’t wait to party with you Italians.”
‘s setlist for the Eras Tour includes 44 songs, spread over about 3 hours of concert. Both dates on July 13 and 14 see the opening act by the American band Paramore.
